For those like me who had already seen his exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum last year won't be surprised but will always be delighted to find again Murakami's colorful, joyful, caricatural and yet serious artworks. THe whole new thing is that he painted his own face in some paintings ( anyone who's seen the documentary Marc Jacobs & L.V. knows he's not really humble, so does it come from that? ) and he used new materials.
Legitimate son of Andy Warhol and brother of Jeff Koons, Murakami is the artist of a generation: the sculptures of Kanye West's bear for his latest CD are at nowadays what Warhol's stilettos were in the 50s; and his Kaikai Kiki Corporation in Tokyo is the Factory of our days.
Another thing I enjoy is that the by-products are treated as any piece of art (and so are the prices...).
If you're in Paris, just don't miss this genius exhibition made possible thanks to EMmanuel Perrotin which is one of the greatest gallery owner up to date.
